Chapter 2 Questions:
  • How do you define your job?
  • Rate your school or district, and explain, on the four priorities of building professional learning communities as described on page 34.
  • Right now, how does your school or district respond when students do not learn?
  • Consider the methods described on page 38 for helping struggling students. Would any of these work for you?
  • Interview someone in your/a school on the questions listed on page 39. What do you think about the responses?
  • Consider the team questions on page 42 and 43. Where does your school/district fall now?
  • Interview someone in your school using the questions posed at the bottom of page 43. Share some of the answers, and reflect on your findings.
  • Write a SMART goal for yourself that you could accomplish in the next several months.
  • Describe an example you have seen recently of a teacher “practicing” the craft of teaching.

Chapter 3 Questions:
After reading about Rebecca Burnette’s experience at Boones Mill Elementary School, reflect on the various facets of her story.
  • What seems doable to you?
  • What appears daunting, or even overwhelming?
  • What resources or change in attitude would you need to make this happen?
